Seeing as I replaced the Bat and the Hood with Bert and Gerard...its only fair, really....

Who the fuck plans a field trip to New Jersey? Or better, GOTHAM CITY, New Jersey. Isn't that the place always in supermarket tabloids 'MANEATING MAN-FISH FOUND IN NASTY ASS CITY,' or some shit? To top it all off they have to go to some boring museum. Well, the other kids do because Quinn is getting the hell out of here. Okay, so maybe ditching the group in GC probably isn't the best idea but he's still a little bit high. Only a little because he's running low on weed, which is why he's headed toward some skeevy alley with a bunch of skeevy looking teenagers hanging out.

When he finds the right hook-up its like they can smell out of towner on him because they're charging him way too much. He doesn't mention it because the 'kids' look like they probably live in the dumpster behind them and he doesn't mind giving them a little extra. Especially if it means they won't hit him with that baseball bat one of them is carrying. Quinn's unfolding his wad of cash when the three boys are distracted by a smaller kid walking by, face low, hood pulled up. The tallest of the three motions to his friends and two of them take off following Mr. inconspicuous.
Quinn is so getting the hell out of here. He's almost to the end of the alley, all he has to do is turn the corner and hurry back to his supervised group but...
Okay, it would be totally wrong to leave after he's seen that the two guys caught up with that kid and are now giving him one hell of a beat down in the doorway of an empty shop.
Its not like this happens a lot where he's from so he's not sure getting their attention is a great plan but Quinn doesn't know what else to do.
"Hey! Hey!" he tries until the two kids lift their fists and turn toward Quinn. NOW WHAT?
"Uhm, that's uh...that's my cousin. Whatever he owes you uh..I've got it." Quinn holds up what's left of his souvenir money. The boys drop their prey and move toward him, taking his money and jabbing him once in the stomach before walking away.
Fucking OUCH. Holding his stomach he steps over to the doorway and leans down to see if the kid is still breathing.
The little jerk just glares at him and snarls out, "Who the fuck are you?"
Without answering Quinn pulls the guy up to his unsteady feet and asks which way home is. After spitting out a good bit of blood mixed saliva the boy leans on him and directs to what is very obviously a condemned building. Great. They walk up some steps that Quinn is pretty sure are going to cave any minute to a little squat.
"You gonna crash?" the dirty little punk asks, dropping to the mattress on the floor as Quinn looks around at the band posters on the wall, corners missing where they were stolen out of windows. He points to the one of Poison Idea and says, "My drummer loves them. What's your name?"
The boy looks up with dark blue eyes that are a little like sparklers through black hair that obviously needs to be washed, "Jason. You're in a band?"
"I'm Quinn, and yeah, though right now we aren't doing much, we're looking for a front man."

AND THEN HE TAKES HIM HOME TO UTAH AND THEY HAVE SLEEPOVERS AND START A SCREAMO BAND AND LIVE HAPPILY EVER AFTER UNTIL THEY MEET THIS OTHER BAND WHOSE SINGER IS SOME STUPID GOTH KID NAMED BRUCE WHO WEARS A STUPID BAT BELT AND THEY FIGHT A LOT BUT THEY'RE STILL KIND OF FRIENDS.

He doesn't need to see under the other man's mask to know he's asking how.

"Do what you should have done a long time ago."

"You know I can't."

It's the same answer he'll always get. So he decides to change the subject for once.

"Do you know what its like to be buried alive?"

He looks down at his own hands where some of the fingernails haven't grown back completely. The way they were before he clawed his way through his own pine box six feet under. Nothing can ever really go back to the way it was. He can't help focusing on the details, the seemingly unimportant ones like keratin, its the way he was trained. Or maybe its whatever Mrs. Robinson did to him that makes his head still kind of fuzzy.

Now its the way Gerard's fingers twitch like he's remembering it too. The way it felt when his hand caught running through the thick tangles of Bert's hair the night he found him strung out in that alley and brought him back to the basement. The way only the smallest shards of light were sharp enough to break through the tiny, dingy window as the older man's palm lay against his scalp.

He screams, just once, before slipping the helmet back over his now shortened hair and jumps up the fire escape, leaping roof to roof until he disappears into the night entirely. Sometimes he can even convince himself into caring nothing for the man that he leaves standing frozen in the alley until the rising sun returns to catch the city on fire.

I've found intense enlightenment. You can too.

I'm going out of state for 4 days starting June. My cousin is getting married and he and two of his brothers and I get along. Although, between the rest of that whole family and myself there is a strong mutual disdain. One of his brothers just had surgery because his other cousin nearly beat him to death. Yeah. That's going to be a fun trip. /sarcasm

At first its a pain in your chest that whispers 'I miss him' when you sigh. Until you realize he's not coming back. Then the fond memories become soggy and sour. Your time together only a bad taste left in your mouth. All that's left to remember is a sore jaw that convinces you love doesn't feel like this.
